The key factor is the demand charge. Utilities do not only bill for the total amount of electricity consumed. They also charge based on the highest 15-minute power demand recorded during the billing period. A single peak load event can therefore influence electricity costs for the entire year.
Peak load days account for only around 10% of the heating season, yet they can generate up to 40% of total operating costs. As a result, heat pumps are often oversized to cover these infrequent peaks.
HYTING's Hydrogen-to-Heat technology demonstrates how Peak Load Management can cover these costly demand peaks, allowing companies to reduce demand charges while keeping the base heating system efficiently sized.
At our customer site in Markkleeberg, this approach reduced demand charges by 70%.
